Michelle Bond was born in Quezon City Philippines. Michelle and her siblings immigrated to San Francisco in 1980. She writes poetry, plays music, and sketches during her free time. Growing up in a musically inclined family, her artwork is influenced by Classical Music, poems, and short stories, and works of artists like Picasso, Kandinsky, Miro, and Dali.
Michelle’s creativity has sprung up from her maternal side… watching aunts and uncles build their homes and do crafts .
Her father was an excellent writer .When she was 6, her mother had given her a set of watercolor paints and encouraged her to make paintings, draw and do crafts.
She nurtured that creativity from the very start . Unfortunately, her mother died when she was 11 overcoming the family with sadness and anxiety that has carried onto her artwork.
Her paintings are expressions of sounds, music, poems, and events in her daily life. They are depicted in an abstract expressionist way through watercolors, oils, and acrylics. Her paintings are imbued in emotions. Her color choices are bright often accentuated with black lines and shapes, indicative of her intent to define edges, endings , separations ,and changes . Her compositions are intricate, complex, thought provoking and integral in her Artistic Way to communicate her silent stories. She is very shy introverted and intuitive .
She moves from plane to plane quickly ... not knowing where the work will take her. She gets lost in the process until she submits to an idea borne from a single stroke of line or color. When She captures these single moments, her painting exposes her psyche and inner personality .With strange forms, colored and drawn she reveals an outcome that differentiates her style from other artists. The Art is transcendental, spiritual, and mind boggling in some ways. They are evocative and engaging and becomes pictorial and poetic as a narrative . Her paintings have many facets or chapters that invites the viewer to discover and read her work , real on unreal.
She graduated with a Bachelors of Fine Arts Degree from San Francisco State University with an emphasis on Printmaking and Painting in 1996. In college, she had done well to produce 2 shows.
After graduation, she started a landscape construction Company called Thumbellina Gardens She also pursued and finished a Masters Degree in Landscape Architecture at UC Berkeley.
Today, she divides her time designing and installing gardens and landscapes while she continues her artwork in her design/art studio in San Francisco California.
